About the Piece:

Officially licensed by the Wheel of TimeTM, the inspiration for The Last Battle happened as I read the final book, A Memory of Light. As I read the scene of Aviendha standing on the cliffs surrounding Shayol Ghul seeing the symbol in the clouds, I just knew that I had to illustrate this scene. It was the first piece that I planned to work on outside of my designs for Ta'veren Tees, however fate had other ideas in mind. As I described the imagery to my fellow fans at JordanCon, Ta'veren asked if they could include it in the 2015 calendar, and it was featured as the image for December. And then after that, I was approached to have it published as the official depiction of Thakan'dar and Shayol Ghul in the 2015 The Wheel of Time Companion. So what started as a design just for me, became a piece featured not only by Ta'veren Tees, but also to become one of my first officially licensed works that is published in the universe as well.

The original is in the private collection of April Moore.

About the Artist:

Paul and his brother Michael opened Aradani Studios in 2002, selling both their artwork and costuming as they travelled all across the US. Paul’s medium of choice is charcoal, a passion he discovered in college. He loves the fluidity of it, the ease of moving it across the page with a simple gesture, and on the flipside, the challenge of it, such a simple gesture can also erase hours of painstaking detail. Paul’s work has won numerous awards around the country, including the prestigious Chesley Award in 2006, for Best Monochrome Unpublished for his piece Nightmare. He currently resides in Nashville, TN, where he, his brother, and sister continue to expand and build their elf ear empire. You can see his artwork at http://paulbielaczyc.com/
