The Creature That Had Once Been Padan Fain - officially licensed Wheel of TimeTM artwork

"The creature that had been Padan Fain fingered his beautiful dagger, feeling the ridges of the designs in the fine golden wire that wrapped its hilt. A large ruby capped the end of its hilt, and he carried the weapon unsheathed in his right hand so that the blade extended between his first two fingers. The sides of those fingers had been cut a dozen times over.”

About the Piece:

Officially licensed by the Wheel of TimeTM, "The Creature That Had Once Been Padan Fain..." was commissioned by Ta'veren Tees for inclusion in the 2015 The Wheel of Time calendar, featured as the artwork for the month of October. The original was done in charcoal and chalk, depicting a scene of Padan Fain in "A Memory of Light" by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. As Padan Fain walks down into the valley of Thakan'dar, his army of soulless men, Trollocs, and Myrddraal follow him as the mists of Mashadar swirl around them. He is called to Shayol Ghul, where he hopes to inhabit as he once did in Shadar Logoth.

This piece will be published as the official character portrait for Padan Fain in the 2015 The Wheel of Time Companion.

This piece was sold at Dragon*Con 2015 to a private collector.

About the Artist:

Paul and his brother Michael opened Aradani Studios in 2002, selling both their artwork and costuming as they travelled all across the US. Paul’s medium of choice is charcoal, a passion he discovered in college. He loves the fluidity of it, the ease of moving it across the page with a simple gesture, and on the flipside, the challenge of it, such a simple gesture can also erase hours of painstaking detail. Paul’s work has won numerous awards around the country, including the prestigious Chesley Award in 2006, for Best Monochrome Unpublished for his piece Nightmare. He currently resides in Nashville, TN, where he, his brother, and sister continue to expand and build their elf ear empire. You can see his artwork at http://paulbielaczyc.com/
