About the Pieces:

Completed in early 2017 for Michael's Sagaborn Roleplaying system, the Mage Tower of Eredar is a perfect example of why I like working with my brother for his roleplaying system. Micheal knew that he wanted an architecture piece for his latest book, the first official core rulebook. But the specifics of the piece, were up to me.

Other than the assignment of a Mage Tower, I was given almost complete freedom in illustrating it how I envisioned it. I really enjoy the open approach to creating something in a world completely from your own vision, rather than trying to figure out how to represent in art, what someone can describe in words. In fact, too many times I have had art assignments based on passages that sound great in writing, but are almost impossible to represent in art!

After completing the piece, based on the look and ambiance, and the surrounding landscape, Michael decided to make this the Mage Tower of Eredar. And I know when the tower finally does make an appearance in the writings, the art will be a spot-on match (or at least it should be since the art came first!).

About the Artist:

Paul and his brother Michael opened Aradani Studios in 2002, selling both their artwork and costuming as they travelled all across the US. Paul’s medium of choice is charcoal, a passion he discovered in college. He loves the fluidity of it, the ease of moving it across the page with a simple gesture, and on the flipside, the challenge of it, such a simple gesture can also erase hours of painstaking detail. Paul’s work has won numerous awards around the country, including the prestigious Chesley Award in 2006, for Best Monochrome Unpublished for his piece Nightmare. He currently resides in Nashville, TN, where he, his brother, and sister continue to expand and build their elf ear empire. You can see his artwork at http://paulbielaczyc.com/
