Lord of the Rings Moria Orc Tutorial
By Michael Bielaczyc
|
When I first did this costume if was a couple years ago and we didn’t have some of the prosthetics that we have now. Suffice it to say, it would be a lot easier now with our Pro Orc Kit. Below I describe how I did it without this kit and you will see why it’s a lot easier with a single mask.
Item list:
Prosthetics (anything with a * is now provided or replaced in our Pro Orc Kit):
-
*Vampire Brow
-
*Orc Nose Style 1
-
*Large Elf Ears
-
*Black Wig
-
*Flesh latex, spirit gum, remover, make –up, and cotton balls.
-
*Bald Cap
-
Yellow Contacts
-
Tunic
-
Overvest
-
Belt
-
Gloves
-
Chainmail
-
Pants
-
Boots
-
Shoulder Armor
-
Pouches
-
Sword

First I sewed together a basic costume with a tea-stained undershirt, double wrap belt, leggings and Son of Sandlar Boots.

|
Next, I added a worn black cloth mantle. I was very picky with the materials of the costume to give it that rugged, dirty feel of orc clothing. I also added some faux-suede gauntlets and belt decorations. You can find a tutorial for making this PVC Chainmail at Alley Cat Scratch.

|
Then I started adding the prosthetics. This is what they looked like unpainted.

Detail notes:

As you can see, I built up the cheekbones with cotton balls and latex. Now with our orc mask, you don't need to do this anymore. |
The prosthetics after they had been painted up. My best advice is to be patient and apply the paint slowly and evenly. It doesn't take much to rip flesh latex and pull the seams apart so take it slow!

Close-ups of the face finished. This was all applied and painted by myself. It took approximately 2.5 hours to complete application.

|
And this is how you look after wearing the costume for 8 hours and you tore it off at home at 1 o'clock in the morning. Pretty handsome guy huh?
